The Patient's Journey

From the first notice of an upcoming breast exam, the patient's anxiety begins to build. Once the procedure is over they relax only to have anxiety once again set in as they wait for the results.

The Patient Experience, It's a Mugging.

Patients feel vulnerable, to have strangers positioning their breast and manipulating their exposed bodies from all sides in order to get the best image.

Patient Positioning Explorations

The patient positioning explorations focused on supporting the patient and providing a more natural position for the breast tissue.

Side by Side Testing

Side by side testing with a production system and the positioning concept comparing tissue capture, patient comfort and the reaction to the different experience.

Patient response scores show their preference in positioning with verbal comments emphasizing the difference.

When asked to provide 3 words for each system, the word clouds indicate their preference towards the concept.

The New Workstation and Mammography System

Patient Improvements

Focusing on patient's physical experience with the equipment, the pain points, difficulties and awkwardness. The design strived to make a more friendly physical experience.

The Acquisition Workstation

Improved ergonomics, flexibility to adapt to each technologist, workspace is a premium in the imaging suite.

Information Where It is Needed

Providing the information where they need it, when they need it improves the technologist workflow and efficiency.

Creating Space

Giving the technologist the space to do their job improves ergonomics and gives them time with the patient.

New Angles of Movement

Body habitus plays is a major contributing factor for the patient as well as the technologist. Giving them more angles to work with can produce better images.

Control where it is meant to be

Depending on the type of images needed, giving the technologist the ability to make changes on the fly improves efficiency. Patented rotating screens provide the technologist with readable information they are looking for.

The Next Level of Control

By bringing the workstation controls to the gantry, the technologist can focus on the patient and the task at hand without repeated trips back and forth.
